Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.
It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive. Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive This is to allow the system to try to boot from ONLY the SSD Select ALL the partitions on the existing C driveĭisconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)

Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSDĭownload and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)ĭisconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD Specific steps for a successful clone operation: You likely left off the boot partition or something. Any idea what I did wrong?ĭone correctly, the clone operation should work. Now upon boot up with the new SSD I just get stuck in the BIOS. I checked the contents of the SSD afterwards and it looked like a match. I cloned the HDD to the SSD to preserve the OS. But, of course, all I want to do iscopy the 88 GB of actual data from the C: drive into the 119.1 GB available on the SSD.Īlso, in Win 7's "Disk Management" utility I see that the SSD a) is online, b) shows the 100 MB System Partition having been successfully copied and healthy, and c) shows 119.14 GB "unallocated."
I think the problem is that Ghost "thinks" I want to move a 915 GB total size of the C: drive into the 119.1 GB available on the SSD.
#Samsung data migration stuck at 100 update#
When I try to use Ghost to "Copy My Hard Drive" it displays an error message "Cannot update settings" with "Show Details reporting " -Info 6C8F1C25: Cannot update settings.-The selected destination is too small to hold the data. (UMI:V-6)" The "unallocated" part of the SSD has 119.1 GB available. The C: drive shows a capacity of 915 GB with only 88GB in use (I moved everything else, the contents of "my documents") to an external backup drive. Now I want to copy over the OS drive - C. I installed Ghost, followed the steps, and successfully copied my 100 MB System partition.

I havebeen following the Data Migration process from the manual included on the CD that came with the Samsung SSD. I am running a fully updated WIn7 desktop PC with 6 GB RAM and a 1 TB drive with 900 GB of available space.Īfter reviewing the data usage on the PC's 1 TB internal drive I determined that everything would easily fit onto a 128 GB SSD, other than "My Documents" which I would leave on the hard drive. I have a new Samsung 830 series SSD with 128 GB capacity.
